16/06/2011 - Costa Rica, La Fortuna to Monteverde

We got up early for our transfer to Monteverde and finally saw the volcano, excellent.  In Monteverde we had arrived in time to do zip-lining in the afternoon, but we skipped that in favour of a night walk which was an inspired choice because it rained all afternoon (when we would have been zip lining).  We had good viewing on the night walk, a sloth, a racoon type animal that is rarely seen, a pit viper, a tarantula the size of a human being, bio luminescent mushrooms, fireflies and lots of other bugs.  Not many photos as things were only seen by torchlight which is not the best for photography.

The photos are of the volcano, a tiny frog with a big croak, the giant tarantula, the giant tarantula (courtesy of Liz), a pit viper and leaf katydid.
