13/07/2011 - Mexico, Chichen Itza to Merida
We spent the morning visiting Chichen Itza and it far exceeded expectations. We weren't expecting a great deal as everyone has said that Tikal is far better than Chichen Itza and even though Tikal is actaully better, Chichen Itza is still an amazing site. We were lucky that we got in when the site opened at 8am as we managed to view the whole site with maybe 100 other people, however, by 10am when we left the place was crowded with tourists and market holders selling cheap rubbish. A really good morning. In the afternoon we caught the bus to Merida as there is nothing else to do at Chichen Itza aside from visit the ruins.
The photos are of the temple of kulkulkan x 6, an ancient game of naughts and crosses, two more of kulkulkan, a small relic, a motif complete with hair, and a crumbled temple.
