30/06/2011 - Guatemala, Flores to Tikal to Flores

A great day spent at some Mayan ruins.  The ruins are in the middle of the jungle and have a bit of an Indiana Jones type fell about them.  By taking a tour through the ruins you got a history and nature walk which was awesome.  I also loved the fact that unlike the west, you can climb the ruins and also go exploring as very little is off limits to the visitor.  And there is a good way to know that you've gone off limits too, men with shotguns.  The day was also made better by the fact that we finally saw black spider monkeys up close and also saw the ever elusive toucan.  A very very good day.

The photos are of temple 6, some generic ruins, a view of temple 5 from some ruins, a view of temple 1,2 and 5 from the top of temple 4, a view of temple 5 from the forest, the stairs up to temple 5 (closed but somehow still climbable, I didn't), temple 5, a view of temple 1 and the main complex, a black spider monkey and baby, a toucan, a black spider monkey and a animal with the same last name as Liz on one of the temples (hard to see but is there, another where's wally if you will).
