13/08/2010 - Russia, St. Petersburg to Moscow
My last day in St. Petersburg and I didn't do a great deal. I bought some Matrushka dolls. I walked down the canals. I read my book. A really slow paced day.
The only excitement, if any, was the debate over whether or not my non-russian train ticket would get me on the train. I checked at the ticket booking office in town, but, as I didn't speak russian, I had a note from the hostel. The woman at the desk looked at my ticket for a bit (upside down), then went away and came back, then spoke in rapid fire russian, nodded and gave me my ticket back. Hopefully good. The girls at the hostel weren't so sure as the general rule is a russian ticket is needed for a russian train. My ticket worked. The second part of the train fun was that I had booked a cabin (coupe) to myself. The russian girl in my room had never ever heard of this so she was fairly certain that I'd be sharing. Thankfully, I had the coupe to myself.
So the photos today are of train (Krasnaya Strela - Red Arrow) and the coupe that I had to myself.
