06/05/2011 - Ecuador, Santa Cruz Island to Isabela Island (Galapagos)
After what was a rough cruise overnight for most (I slept through) we arrived in the morning to Isabela Island, the largest of the Galapagos. Today, we had an island walk in the morning to try and see some sharks, unfortunately, none were around. We did however, see an array of iguanas, lava lizards and sea lions which made up for the lack of sharks. In the afternoon, we visited a tortoise breeding program, had a swim and hiked to the rim of the Sierra Negra volcano with the hope of seeing the second largest caldera in the world. It was raining so we missed out. We did, however have a much better highlight, on the way back we saw some people snorkelling with some sea lions near the jetty, so we headed back to the boat got our snorkel gear and came back. The sea lions were gone when we got back, however, after 15 minutes or so, they came back and swam and played around us, it was amazing. By the time we saw a giant marbled ray it was time to get out and head back to ship for dinner.
The photos are of a sea lion, marine iguanas, sea lions, a heron, a marine iguana and a lava lizard, another marine iguana and lava lizard, a pelican, a sally lightfoot crab, some tortoises on the march and a tortoise with it's eye on me.
