08/05/2011 - Ecuador, Isabela Island to Fernandina Island to Isabela Island (Galapagos)
Overnight we sailed to Fernandina Island. This island has no human inhabitants and is home to the flightless cormorant. We had a morning walk and the viewing was amazing, flightless cormorants, blue footed boobies, sea lions, galapagos snakes, american oyster catchers, marine iguanas, lava lizards, sally lightfoot crabs and even a passing killer whale. After our morning walk, we cruised the Bolivar passage back to Isabela with the chance of seeing whales, which we didn't, we did see some sea turtles though. In the afternoon there was a hike to get a view of the Galapagos and its many islands and then more snorkelling. The snorkelling was not as good as yesterday. Yesterday, there were five of us across a large reef teeming with life. Today, it was with another boat so there were 20+ in the water which made it more like a scrum. We were lucky enough to see up to 10 sea turtles and I also briefly swam with two penguins, however, due to the amount of people this was not as good as yesterday.
The photos are of a marine iguana, a marine iguana, a female darwin finch, a galapagos snake, a sally lightfoot crab, a marine iguana, a bull sea lion, a flightless cormorant, a sea lion, an american oyster catcher, a pelican, a sea lion, a sea lion and a lava lizard, a marine iguana and lava lizard, a lava lizard, two sally lightfoot crabs, a galapagos snake, a sea lion, a sea turtle, the view from Isabela Island, a lava lizard and two views of the sunset.
